- "I'm not gonna mess this up."
- — Warrior while saving Izzy Gomez
Warrior is the sixth episode of TUGS.
Plot[]
Captain Star has given Warrior and Big Mac the job of taking stone from the quarry to the old quayside. Warrior takes the first load and starts his journey with his barge bumping into the back of him as he pulls off. Then, he nearly collides with some Shrimpers. After that, he meets up with Izzy Gomez. Warrior asks Izzy if he would like a tow but Izzy tells him that he is going to try to get into port on his own for free. Warrior tells him that it is against the law, and leaves in a huff, accidentally hitting Izzy with his barge.
Warrior goes through the estuary where Sunshine is working with Little Ditcher and Pearl. Warrior tells them about his new job, but then as he is leaving, his barge hits Little Ditcher, causing him to spin on the spot. Sunshine and Pearl find this very funny.
Warrior arrives at the old quayside, where Ten Cents, Zip and Zug are pulling down old buildings. The Coast Guard is also there keeping watch. As Warrior pulls up, his rock-filled barge bumps into the back of him, much to Zip and Zug's amusement. Since he is the first one to bring the rock barge in, Warrior has to go back to the quarry to pickup another one since there are no empty barges. Ten Cents also says that Warrior is too quick for them to which Warrior thinks is great, saying he will do a couple more rock deliveries before he goes back, thus meaning getting more payment for Captain Star.
Meanwhile, Big Mac is making his way to the quarry to collect his load of stone. He meets up with a sleeping Izzy who tells him that he doesn't want a tow,so Big Mac goes off. The Z-Stacks pass by and show no interest in towing Izzy. Izzy decides to go into port without a tug in tow.
At the quarry, Big Mac's barge is being loaded with stone from the loader. Zorran, Zebedee and Zak arrive to collect their load and notice Big Mac is taking on a large load of stone. Zorran tries to sabotage Big Mac's delivery by talking badly of Warrior so that Big Mac will get angry, and forget about his barge still being loaded, and getting dangerously low in the water. It isn't until Grampus shows up and warns Big Mac that his barge is overloaded and low in the water. Big Mac notices this but goes off out of the quarry anyway with the Z-Stacks encouraging him to do so with Grampus close by. Zorran knows that with Big Mac's barge being overloaded, it could sink by any wave washing over it.
Back at the old quayside, Ten Cents, Zip and Zug are still pulling buildings down when Izzy comes in without a tow. Ten Cents tries to warn him about the bay, but Izzy, thinking he wants to tow him in, ignores him. Suddenly, he goes out of control, and crashes into the rock foundations. Ten Cents quickly runs up to Izzy and pushes against him. He asks Scuttlebutt Pete and Mighty Mo, who are close by, to hold onto Izzy. Zip offers to give Ten Cents to help, but Zug refuses as it is not their salvage as Zug blatantly tells Ten Cents. Zip knows that they really need to help Ten Cents, as he can see that Ten Cents is struggling. But Zug knows that Captain Zero won't approve.
Big Mac is now taking his barge slowly along the route to the old quayside. Grampus watches him to make sure his barge is okay. So far, Big Mac has done well, but suddenly, Warrior comes rushing straight towards them. Grampus ducks out of the way just in time (but as Warrior rushes past Big Mac, he causes a big wave, which washes over Big Mac's barge, and causes it to sink due to being overloaded). Big Mac tells him to go and get a crane, and backs to mark the spot where the barge sank.
Meanwhile, Ten Cents is still making sure Izzy is okay. He has thrown a few ropes to keep him upright. Suddenly, Izzy starts sinking. Ten Cents and the cranes push against him to keep him upright, but his efforts aren't proving much good as one rope was starting to break. He pleads to Zip and Zug to help him, but Zug still refuses. The Coast Guard goes off to find Big Mac to help. Just then, Top Hat arrives with Lord Stinker. He can see Ten Cents needs help, and is angry with Zip and Zug for not helping him, saying that he will report them for this. Zug tries to hold to the scheme by claiming Ten Cents claimed salvage, only for Ten Cents to remind him he never said such a thing.
Since Top Hat is too tall to get in to push Izzy, he pushes Lord Stinker against him to keep him upright; Izzy feels he would "rather sink" than suffer Stinker's smell. Zip convinces Zug that the scheme is useless and they prepare to assist, only for Warrior to rush past them to help. Ten Cents warns Warrior that it is too dangerous and tells him to back off or he'll sink with him, but Warrior refuses to abandon his friend in trouble, saying "Not if I can help it!", and starts to push. Sure enough, Izzy starts to move. But then, one of the ropes holding Izzy snaps, and Izzy starts to go over. But Warrior keeps pushing him, and firmly says: "I'm not gonna mess this up." Big Mac arrives to help, and can see Warrior is doing a great job. Then, Warrior tells Scuttlebutt Pete and Mighty Mo to pull. The two cranes do so, and the Star Tugs give one last push, and at last, Izzy is back to safety.
The Coast Guard and Grampus arrive, and can see that Izzy is safe. Everyone is proud of Warrior; he has saved the day. "I reckon this makes up for sinking my barge Warrior," says Big Mac. "I reckon it makes up for everything," Ten Cents agrees. Just then, Zorran, Zebedee and Zak arrive. "What's up here? Another one of Warrior's disasters, eh?" asks Zorran. The Coast Guard explains that it Warrior was not to blame, but Zip and Zug were, as they cost the Z-Stacks the rock contract. He then reprimands Izzy for attempting to come in without a tow, saying he will have to pay a hefty fine.
Warrior feels very tired, and goes to make his way home, but on his way he falls asleep and bumps into the tramper Old Rusty. Initially, Warrior continues his streak of blaming others for his mishaps that day, only for Old Rusty to remind him he's been anchored in the estuary for nearly 2 years. Warrior finally apologizes "Sorry, it's been a long day, and I must have dozed off." As Warrior leaves, Old Rusty states that life would be rather dull without him around. Then Captain Star says that even though Warrior bumps into things, he still considers him to be an asset to the Star Fleet.

Early Writing Stages[]
Early during the development stages for episode ideas, the original idea for the episode would've focused on Top Hat instead of Warrior. After having towed a garbage barge Upriver to be unloaded at a rock quarry, Top Hat has to tow a rock barge down river and across the bay to where foundations for a new pier are being laid. The heavy barge starts to take in on water but desperate to not pull the garbage barge again, Top Hat insists he can get the rocks across the bay before the barge takes on too much water. With the water making the barge heavier, Top Hat starts to slow down. Half way across the bay, the barge sinks. As Top Hat reverses over the area the barge sank to drop a marker buoy in the area, the rocks fall out of the barge underwater, causing it to resurface right underneath Top Hat trapping him. After drifting across the Bay much to the amusement of the other tugs and various vessels, the barge with Top Hat on board is towed into a dry dock. With the dock still flooded, straps are placed beneath Top Hat and attached to a crane. Holding Top Hat in a fixed position the dock is emptied at low tide and Top Hat is suspended in mid-air like some fish out of water.
Later on, Warrior would end up replacing Top Hat. During early scripting stages, Warrior bumping into an anchored vessel is added. Some drafts after that, the plots becomes about Warrior's clumsiness causing chaos throughout the Port during mid-summers day.
In a even later version of the episode, Captain Star gives Warrior a final warning: "Either shape up or ship out!". For the rest of the day, Warrior doesn't get involved in or see a single incident, but the effects of his passing leave behind confusion and damage wherever he goes. Even Grampus is left turned upside down. A final long look across the harbor "tells the saga of Warrior's longest day".
The latest draft of the episode known to exist before filming is the picture book adaption of the episode adapted from an early draft of the episode. It is largely the same as the 20 minute version of the episode, although with some key differences. It features two scenes not seen in the 20 minute version relating to Captain Star warning Warrior to be careful along with alternate versions of Warrior bumping Little Ditcher and the Z-Stacks passing by Izzy Gomez.
Deleted Scenes[]
Main Articles: Deleted Scenes
This episode was the fifth in production order. This episode is also the only episode that has a twenty minute cut that has been released outside of home video releases. The 20 minute tape is titled "Warrior's Longest Day" being the original title for the episode.
The 15 minute cut excludes an alternate opening. Warrior stops beside Big Mac at the Coal Yard while pulling a barge. Big Mac is covered in coal dust. Warrior and Big Mac talk about the new rock contract and Big Mac going for a washdown. The two laugh before Warrior leaves to go to Big Boulder Rock Company.
After Izzy Gomez speaks to Warrior, there is a transition to the Old Docks where Ten Cents, Zip, Zug, Mighty Mo, and Scuttlebutt Pete are working hard pulling down the old buildings in the docks to make room for new ones. Zip, Zug, and Ten Cents decide to have a challenge: a strength contest in pulling down the old buildings. Ten Cents pulls hard to pull down the building but no matter how hard he tries, it won't come down. Ten Cents gives up and Zip and Zug use Mighty Mo to pull down the building. Since Ten Cents weakened the building, the structure collapses easily. Zip and Zug boast that they are the strongest, making Ten Cents feel disappointed in himself.
After Warrior amuses Pearl and Sunshine by accidentally making Little Ditcher spin around, Warrior leaves The Estuary and Top Hat and Lord Stinker arrive. Top Hat complains about Warrior's clumsiness, and asking why Captain Star keeps him around. Sunshine points out that without Warrior, Top Hat would be stuck with garbage work more often. Top Hat (embarrassed) complains as usual.
After Warrior delivers his barge of rocks to the Old Docks, Warrior does various jobs around Bigg City Port before heading back to the quarry.
After Zebedee comments on how devious Zorran's plan to foil Big Mac is, Zebedee and Zak tell Zorran that they need to go fill up on water which Zorran is greatly displeased about.
After Warrior sinks Big Mac's barge, Grampus resurfaces. He alerts Big Mac about his barge but it is too late. Big Mac's barge resurfaces from under the water right where Big Mac is, trapping him. Grampus brings the Coast Guard and Warrior. As they help Big Mac off of the barge, the Coast Guard tells Warrior that Ten Cents is going to sink if he keeps holding up Izzy by himself. Warrior rushes to help Ten Cents.
Trivia[]
- This is the only episode written by Robert D. Cardona.

- This is the second and final episode to be named after a character (the first being Sunshine).
- There is a deleted scene of Big Mac balancing precariously on his sunken barge after it loses its load and resurfaces. This scene can be seen in the book Warrior's Longest Day, and the 20 minute rough cut of the episode.
- The rough cut of the original 20 minute cut of this episode (titled "Warrior's Longest Day" with Chris Tulloch doing all the voices) is in the possession of the TUGS: The Exhibition, it was privately screened in 2016 and was leaked online in October 2022.
- O.J. and Hercules do not appear in this episode.
- Izzy insults the tugs by calling them "gringos" (a Spanish slang word for whites).
- Zak is the only Z-Stack who does not speak in this episode (although he was planned to in earlier drafts).
- This marks the only appearance of Old Rusty, The Quarry Master and Pearl.

Goofs[]
- Ten Cents' whistle is pitched higher in the opening.
- In a picture with Warrior and Izzy, Warrior's hat is crooked.
- The Shrimpers' megaphones are missing.
- Grampus shifts back slightly after surfacing to warn Big Mac about his barge.
- When Big Mac first complains about his barge being overloaded, the eye mechanism behind his face can be seen moving.
- When Izzy Gomez hits the rocks and comes out of the water, just above the black and red strip the silhouette of two heads and an arm appear.
- Warrior comes out of the water when he starts to push Izzy.
- When Warrior tells Mighty Mo and Scuttlebutt Pete to strain the ropes to get Izzy Gomez back on the water, the background changes behind him, and in addition he is seen pulling a barge when yet in the scene he wasn't pulling a barge (which makes this a continuity error). The same thing happens when Warrior says, "Look here you guys, it wasn't…"
- After the tugs rescue Izzy, there appears to be an audio error in Mighty Mo and Scuttlebutt Pete's voices (as Mighty Mo speaks with Jack the Grappler's voice, and Scuttlebutt speaks with Mighty Mo's voice).
- In the close up shot of Scuttlebutt Pete, Zug can be spotted being directly behind him in the background (despite Zug being behind Mighty Mo during Izzy's rescue). This is likely due to the shot being reused from a deleted scene.
- The narrator said that Izzy was saved by 3 Stars, but Izzy was actually saved by 4 Stars.
- When Warrior runs into Old Rusty, his head bounces slightly.
- In the close up shot of Old Rusty, his railings are missing. Additionally there is visible glue outlines on his deck.
